A CLEARER START TO YOUR HOME PLANS

How much can
I borrow?

Let’s find a starting point that makes room for your home, your family and the life you want to live.

Whether you are buying on your own, purchasing together or planning a family move, we can help you understand what your next step could look like.

Meet in Ringwood or Geelong, or talk by phone or video. You do not need a property picked out.

The short answer

Your borrowing capacity depends on your income, financial commitments, deposit and credit history, alongside a lender’s assessment. A salary alone cannot give you a reliable answer.

We also want to understand the repayments you would feel comfortable with. The amount a lender may approve and the amount that fits your everyday life can be different.

Three parts of the conversation.

Your household budget

What comes in, what goes out and what you want to keep room for. Think about regular bills, family commitments and upcoming changes.

Your starting position

Your deposit, savings and existing commitments help shape the discussion. Purchase costs need a place in your budget, too.

Your next chapter

Tell us what you are planning and when. We can explain the information needed to assess lending options for your circumstances.

BEFORE WE TALK

A few details.
A more useful conversation.

For an initial discussion, have a broad picture of the following. We will explain which documents are needed and how to share them securely.

  • Your income and employment situation.
  • Your deposit and other savings.
  • Your regular living expenses and financial commitments.
  • Your plans, timing and questions.

Please do not send identity documents, account passwords or detailed financial records through ordinary email.

From a question to a clearer plan.

1. Share your plans

Start with what you would like to do and the questions on your mind.

2. Understand the options

We discuss your circumstances, the information needed and the practical lending considerations.

3. Decide your next step

That might be preparing for a purchase, allowing more time or exploring an application. Any loan remains subject to lender assessment and approval.

A few common questions

Is this a borrowing-power calculator?

No. This page helps you prepare for a borrowing-capacity conversation with FRF. It does not calculate or promise a loan amount.

Do I need to be ready to buy?

No. You can start by discussing your plans and what you need to understand before searching for a home.

Does a conversation give me pre-approval?

No. An initial discussion is not a credit decision or pre-approval. Read our guide to home-loan pre-approval for more about the process.
